I Have A Question
As
Zig Ziglar loves to say, "I always start a presentation with a
question." And Zig does that too! And even though this is
not a motivational column, but rather about marketing, let me
break from normal form here and ask you a question.
What did you promise yourself at the beginning of this year?
Whatever it was, have you done it yet? Have you even started on
it as yet. You know this is nearly 2010. If you
haven’t started on your new project, marketing plan or new
business venture, then when are you going to do it? The
answer is today - Or never!
Here is the truth. The dollar bill will never sprout wings
and fly into your mailbox, no matter what fantasies you may have
or what someone else has promised you. People who make a
lot of money in business have usually prepared for their good
fortune. Unless of course you are just lucky. You
know the definition of luck don’t you?
Proverbial:
"Luck is when the combination of knowledge, hard work and
opportunity meet in the same place at the same time."
Successful people who start a business or join a legitimate
network marketing company
work hard to learn everything about the products and the
business. They then apply these concepts in an organized
method, working a few dedicated hours each week. Each hour
of effort serves as a building block for their long-term
business growth.
The next logical step of course is to find ways to duplicate
your efforts. It only stands to reason that if you can
make a decent living working at a business, then you can make
even more if you have someone else doing the same thing and you
getting a type of over-ride from their work efforts. This
is best described as leveraging your time to geometrically grow
your income. By helping the people you personally sponsor
to sell products and to sponsor others, you, in effect,
duplicate yourself. It is the very basis of all business
success, and especially for those who franchise.
One McDonald’s restaurant makes a very good profit. Five
thousand McDonald’s makes someone a fortune. That could be
the company, or a private franchise owner. One Wal-Mart
does well, three thousand of them makes them the largest
retailer in the world. Joe’s sandwich shop makes Joe a
good living - two thousand Subway sandwich shops makes Fred
DeLuca (founder of Subway) a very rich man. Are you getting the
idea?
No
matter how hard you work or how successful you are, you will
always do better, make more money and have more leisure time,
when you have others who are trained and working in the business
for the same goals as you.
Also vitally important is that as this process develops and
continues, you create exponential growth that can lead to
hundreds or even thousands of people coming into your business.
You leverage your time by helping others succeed and earning a
small income from each of their sales efforts.
So, which would you rather have, one big store who pays you a
million dollars a year, or 100 which earn you $10,000 a year
each? While the money is the same, which is less work and
which is safer? If something ever happens to that one big
store, it’s all gone, but the person who has the 100 stores, is
still 99% safe and secure.
Now, with all this said, if someone
tells you it is easy, they are lying. Is that clear
enough? They have either never done it themselves, or they
are blowing the proverbial smoke up your leg. But I
challenge you to name a business that is easy. Right!
It doesn’t exist. What does exist is your ability to
own a business and
duplicate your efforts so that you can make more money than you
ever thought you could make.
Let me put it this way: Do you think Bill Gates became the
world’s wealthiest man when he sold his DOS idea to IBM?
No, he made of ton of money to be sure, but that’s not what made
him the wealthiest man on the planet. What made him so
hugely successful was gathering dozens of people around him,
just as dedicated to his idea as he was, then allowing them to
work, develop and market Windows products with new and creative
ideas of their own. That is what made Bill the richest man
in the world. Don’t believe - just ask him. He has
said so many times in numerous interviews and publications.
But there is one thing even more important than being as rich as
Bill Gates, isn’t there? It is having the freedom to do
almost anything you want to do, almost anytime you want to do
it. It is having the freedom of finances to buy that boat,
car, house, vacation property, RV, whatever your little hearts
desire. It is freedom from worry, freedom from debt, freedom to
chose, freedom from all those things that constrict you now.
Yes, it is about freedom. And freedom comes only through
the ability to make the income you desire and the knowledge and
experience you gain along the way to hang on to it once you have
earned it.
So, back to my original question. One that I ask you, because I
once had to ask myself this very same question. If you are
in the same place as you were this time last year, then take a
hard look at where you want to be this time next year. Is
2010 going to be the same as 2009 & 2008 & 2007? It can
be, but it doesn’t have to be! And the economic recession
has nothing to do with it.
Our company grew by over 17% in 2009, and we
did that in the middle of what is being called the worst
recession since the great depression. It’s not the
economy, it’s your attitude. When you face that, you will
change your life! |
